General Information
Built in 1938, Lafayette Theater is both a unique and historic choice for your wedding/reception or event. Once a black and while movie theater, our venue has transformed into a beautiful mix of old and new in recent years. The outside boasts the original marquee and facade, while the inside has been renovated to reflect the modern tastes of today.
Venue Capacity
The capacity of the venue is 1,100. The venue permits all ages, however, can be changed per an event basis.
Lafayette Theater prides itself on the versatility of the main floor. The lessee may choose between a variety of seating options, standing room only (800 capacity), or a combination of the two options. The main floor contains a front lobby, men and women’s’ bathroom facilities, a 21 and up bar area/all ages concessions, and a ticket booth/will call booth located right outside the main doors.
The venue owns twenty-three 60” round tables along with 200 individual chairs which may be used for the main floor free of charge during the rental. Additional chairs and tables can be provided for an additional cost from a local contractor.
The second floor contains an additional lobby with a non-alcoholic bar and concession area, men and women’s’ bathroom facilities, as well as 300 built in theater chairs overlooking the main floor. A projector is located on the second floor and may be used with advance notice.
(*For events 21 and up, both main floor and second floor bars may be used to sell alcohol. Additionally, beers tubs are available based on the expected number of attendees.)
Formal layouts will be discussed and documented during the advancement of the event.
Load-In & Parking
Production and artist load in is easily accessible from the double door side entrance located on 6th Street or the double door back alley entrance. Both entrances are equipped with ramps within close proximity to the main stage. Reserved parking is available up to one semi-truck and one 18-passenger van. Additional parking accommodations can be made upon request to the Talent Buyer (recommended-2 week notice). Free parking is also available on all streets surrounding Lafayette Theater.
Dressing Rooms
The second floor of Lafayette Theater is equipped with a 60 ft x 14 ft green room. Absolutely no smoking of any kind is allowed in or around any premises of Lafayette Theater. A private half bath is attached to the green room for use by the rental party only. Members of the rental party are offered discounted accommodations at Holiday Inn (located 2 blocks from Lafayette Theater).
Electrical
Lafayette Theater currently operates with two separate tie ins (one designated for lights and the other for sound).
Sound System
Currently the sound system provided by Lafayette Theater accommodates comedians, small bands, and acoustic acts. A larger sound reinforcement system is available for rent and provided by an outside contractor. Lafayette Theater highly recommends Smith Sound (Lafayette, IN).
Lighting
Lafayette Theater does not provide an in house lighting rig. The use of Herm Productions (Indianapolis, IN) is highly recommended for all lighting needs.
Stage Details
The stage is comprised of 12 individual pieces of staging that are 8 ft x 4 ft x 2 ft. These pieces can be arranged upon request. Lafayette Theater does not provide crowd gating, however can be rented from a local contractor.
